한국형 발사체 '누리호'의 후속 사업으로 추진하는 차세대 발사체 개발 사업에 2023년부터 2031년까지 총 1조9330억원이 투입될 계획으로 본격적인 예비타당성조사가 진행중이다. 차세대 발사체 개발이 완료되면 지구궤도 위성뿐만 아니라 달, 화성 등에 대한 독자적인 우주탐사 능력을 확보하게 돼 첫 임무로서 2031년에 달착륙선을 발사할 계획이다.
